Petrol Pumps Across Pakistan to Shutdown Indefinitely From Tomorrow

The All Pakistan Petroleum Pump Owners Association has announced an indefinite nationwide shutdown of petrol pumps from 12 AM on Wednesday, after negotiations with the government over the daily revision of petroleum prices ended in failure.

Association Chairman Humayun Khan said petrol pump owners had asked the government to retain the monthly fuel price mechanism. He said daily price revisions would further complicate business and criticized the government for introducing the policy without consulting them

He said the authorities were ignoring the industry’s concerns while misleading the public. The chairman urged the government to address the issues facing fuel dealers through meaningful dialogue.

Association Vice Chairman Nauman Ali Butt said the proposed shift to daily pricing of petroleum products was unacceptable and confirmed that discussions with the petroleum minister had ended unsuccessfully.

Speaking to the media, Association Chairman Humayun Khan said pump owners were demanding a review of dealer commissions and continuation of the existing monthly fuel price mechanism.

He argued that daily price revisions would create operational difficulties for dealers, who are already facing financial challenges.

Humayun Khan also criticised the government for introducing policy changes without consulting petrol pump owners and said retailers had been left out of the decision-making process.

Following the failed negotiations, the association announced that petrol pumps across the country would remain closed from midnight until their demands are addressed.
